Ace of Cups

Ace of Cups

A hand emerges from a cloud holding an overflowing cup; a dove brings the host, and water falls in five streams into a pond of lotuses. It is the source of the heart: new love, emotional fulfillment, compassion and grace.

The overflowing cup, new love, a heart opening.

Waite’s keywords (1911): House of the true heart: joy, content, nourishment, abundance, fertility.

Reversed

Reversed, the cup spills or is blocked: emotional emptiness, repressed feelings, love that is not received, or love that is not given.

Feelings held back, a heart that will not open.

Waite’s keywords (1911): House of the false heart: mutation, instability, revolution.

In love

Upright A new love, or a new depth in the one you have: feelings overflow and the heart opens without fear.

Reversed Love is blocked or unreturned; you give and nothing comes back, or you have closed yourself to what is offered.

In work

Upright Work done with heart, a creative beginning, a job that finally feels meaningful.

Reversed You feel emotionally drained by your work; it no longer touches you.

In money

Upright A gift, an act of generosity, money that comes through kindness or a happy event.

Reversed Money spent to fill an emotional void; buy less, feel more.

At home and in the family

Upright A birth, a blessing, a new warmth in the family; love fills the house.

Reversed A cold house, where feelings are kept behind closed doors.

On your path

Upright Grace descends: an opening of the heart to the divine, to compassion, to love without conditions.

Reversed Your heart is closed to the spirit; soften it, and the water will flow again.

Its counsel

Upright Open your heart and let love in, and let it out.

Reversed Fill your own cup first; you cannot pour from an empty one.
