Three of Cups

Three of Cups

Three women dance in a garden of ripe fruit, raising their cups to one another. It is friendship, celebration, community and shared joy: a time to rejoice with those you love.

Friendship and celebration, the circle of joy.

Waite’s keywords (1911): A matter concluded in plenty, perfection and merriment; victory, fulfilment, solace, healing.

Reversed

Reversed, the celebration turns sour: gossip, excess, a third person entering a relationship, or isolation from friends.

Excess, gossip, a third who comes between.

Waite’s keywords (1911): Expedition, achievement, end; excess in the pleasures of the senses.

In love

Upright Celebrations of love, friends who support the couple, or a friendship that turns into love.

Reversed A third person intrudes; gossip and flirting threaten the bond.

In work

Upright Teamwork, a successful collaboration, a reason to celebrate with colleagues.

Reversed Gossip, cliques at work, or too much play and too little work.

In money

Upright Money for celebrations; good fortune shared with others.

Reversed Excessive spending on parties and pleasures.

At home and in the family

Upright Family celebrations: weddings, baptisms, reunions full of joy.

Reversed Gossip within the family or drinking that spoils gatherings.

On your path

Upright A spiritual community, a circle of sisters and brothers on the path.
